Foreign Cover Friday ( Unearthly )

Foreign Cover Friday is a weekly meme I will feature Foreign and alternative editions of Wonderful YA books! Jump in on the comments and tell me your thoughts !

Featured this week :
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

U.S Edition                                        Australian Edition

UK Edition                                           Portuguese Edition

Well let's see here.. we have Girl in dress, Girl in dress, and ...
Girl in...erm.. * coughs and blushes looking away*

Again, I get that girls in dresses are stunning and eye catching. I am not immune tho their charms, I just wish they matched up to the stories a little more!

That being said, I am torn between the Australian and UK edition, don't get me wrong: I like the US as well! the purple just didn't do it for me as much. But over all I think the UK wins, It has a more.. ethereal feel to it, though the white hair throws me a little. I like that the first three feature the girl out in the wilderness, that part at least matches up to the story! YAY :)

As for the portuguese edition... why is she naked? Ok I can maybe understand why in a far off, angels don't need to be ashamed of their bodies or.. something like that.. But this is A YA book, and .... The cover just throws me too much when I think of it that way!

  2. I'm gonna have to stick with the US version as my favorite but the UK one comes in a close second. OMG, the Portuguese one is just weird! Totally not okay for a YA cover. I'm wondering if that's supposed to be her when she's in glory? At least that's what I got from it with the way the light's swirling all around her. Didn't Clara say something about when she was glowing she shone through her clothes or something bizarre like that. I dunno! Awkward...

I did my post on the Hush, Hush cover: http://bornbookish.blogspot.com/2012/02/blog-segment-foreign-cover-friday.html

  3. I think they are all great covers. I think I like the US version the most.. But the UK (2nd) and Portuguese (3rd) covers are amazing to.

  4. I like the Australian cover (though I don't get why wear a dress if she's going to tromp through the woods LOL).

The Portugese edition puzzles me. If I didn't know, I'd think that it's an adult paranormal romance novel!

  5. I love the colors in the Aussie edition of Unearthly, but not the pose. She looks like she dropped something or is about to be sick.

The UK edition looks like a ghost story, and the Portuguese version is porny. Pretty, yes, but porny.

    Just sayin'.

  6. Wow, the Portuguese one is a little much but I like it better than the UK one. The UK one looks like a WoW character with one leg.

I really like the U.S cover though !

  7. Whoa, what is going on the the Portuguese cover? Lol. I love what you had to say about it, and completely agree. As for the others, my favorite is still the US edition. I'm a sucker for typography, and that title is killer! I also like the subdued colors.

Thanks for participating! I'm sorry it took me so long to get over here. :(
